In Fate Be Changed, Princess Merida butts heads with her mother Queen Elinor about getting married.  Frustrated by having her life planned out for her Merida runs towards the woods where she ends up in the cottage of a clever witch.  After eating a small piece of cake meant for her mother, Merida wakes up groggy and several years in the past!

Merida finds herself in the enemy territory of Clan MacCameron and meets a young woman who is suspicious of Merida.  As it turns out the young woman is a young Queen Elinor, herself frustrated that her parents seem to have her life planned out for her, mirror Merida’s complaints earlier in the book.

Young Elinor brings Merida into her castle when Merida realizes she needs to figure out a plan to get back into her own present before a spell turns into a bear.  Merida decides that she will work to match her own mother with her father Fergus from Clan DunBroch. Merida works in the castle and in her free time, desperately searches for the witch that originally set her on the path.  In between playing cupid for her parents, Merida becomes embroiled in a plot to assassinate Elinor’s father. Can Merida work to save her grandfather and arrange for her parents to fall in love to save her own future?

Fate be Changed by Farah Rochon is a compelling novel that engrosses readers into this magical world of Clan DunBroch and MacCameron.  The woods hide secrets and wisps and Merida finds herself in a place where peace is tenuous and can be broken at any time.  It’s easy to get lost in the story, and because I listened to the audiobook, I loved the accents by the narrator.  Some castle intrigue adds some suspense to the plot and this is easily one of my favorite Twisted Tales.
