Clawdeen, Draculaura, and Frankie Stein return to Monster High for their sophomore year. A bunch of new changes are brewing, including new students, new powers, and new threats. A new student is joins the school this year, named Toralei Stripe, a werecat who isn’t too happy with the changes at school. Toralei and Clawdeen go head to head in the competion for who will be the school’s next prefect. Clawdeen and friends are worried that if Toralei wins, humans and witchcraft will once again be banned at the school.

Meanwhile, Draculaura is dealing with her own emotions on how she fits in as her witchcraft evolves. She meets a new student, Ellis, who is half vampire/half witch and he helps her start exploring her powers.

The school is attacked by witches, and Headmistress Bloodgood ends up banning all witchcraft. Draculaura feels even more alone now that she has to hide her powers. Ellis ends up revealing himself as a half human/half witch, and convinces Draculaura to meet his mother, Zamara, to help end the feud between witches and vampires. Draculaura goes with him hoping to not only end the feud, but show the other students there is no need to be afraid of witch craft.

Of course not is all what it seems, and Clawdeen and friends must race to find Draculaura to help stop a threat that will completely change the world.

What Did Chasing Pixies Think?

Monster High 2 includes new songs, and is a pretty enjoyable movie, especially for fans of the original Monster High movie. While Monster High 2 was entertaining and had very catchy songs, some of the characters felt pushed to the back and lost during the movie, especially Frankie Stein. The movie focused much more on Clawdeen and Draculaura, leaving Frankie and other characters like Cleo and Deuce to just be more in the background, without an integral part of the adventure.

While this might be a disappointment for fans of those characters, overall, Monster High 2 is a good follow-up movie to the first one. It also does a great job of showing ways that teenagers discover who they are and how to accept others differences. This movie is geared towards young teenagers, but overall is an enjoyable movie for the whole family.

Monster High 2 is now available on DVD from Paramount Home Entertainment.
