Movie Review: Wonka is full of whimsy and fun!

“Oompa loompa doompety doo…” We’ve got a great family movie for you! Wonka is an enjoyable movie for the whole family; full of whimsy, fun, and music! Wonka tells the backstory of Willy Wonka before the events of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

When the movie opens we learn that Willy Wonka has been at sea for years, exploring the world and perfecting his chocolate recipe. He is now ready to bring it to the world and arrives at an unnamed town with the dream to open his own shop at Galleries Gourmet.

Before he has a chance to do that, Wonka ends up at an inn, where he discovers he has signed himself up for a life of servitude until he pays an astronomical debt. There he meets an orphan, named Noodles, and others who have also fallen into the trap at the inn.

Without giving away any spoilers, Wonka works to sell his chocolate, while trying to help his new friends escape the inn. It also turns out the other chocolatiers (including the infamous Slugworth) aren’t too happy with Wonka’s arrival on the scene. This becomes another challenge for Wonka and friends on the road to open his own candy store.

We all really enjoyed this movie. There were lots of nods to the original 1971 movie, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The Oompa-Loompas were hilarious and there is a stellar cast attached to this film. The musical numbers were also great and fit right into the whimsy of the movie.

Wonka is now in theaters nationwide and it’s definitely worth seeing on the big screen. It’s a film that the whole family will enjoy and the perfect way to start your holiday season. You can buy tickets here.

We also have a Wonka themed activity page and coloring page share with you courtesy of Warner Brothers! Both were created specifically for the movie.
