LOKI Synopsis

The show kicks off with Loki being captured by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) after snatching up the tesseract in the “Avengers: Endgame” film.  The TVA isn’t happy with Loki’s time manipulation but they give him a new opportunity.  Loki can redeem himself by helping them capture a fugitive who is messing with time and is who seems to be more dangerous than Loki himself.

Loki partners up with Mobius M. Mobius played by Owen Wilson and other TVA members to track down this particular fugitive even though Loki exasperates every single one of the TVA teammates.  They begrudgingly work together because they don’t fully trust Loki and dealing with the God of Mischief is much more tolerable than the hidden villain who keeps assassinating TVA members.

Thoughts on Season One

Listen, friends, Disney+ is KILLING it at these Marvel stand-alone series.  “WandaVision” covered grief, and “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” covered racism and classism but Loki just feels like pure whimsical entertainment.

And the fact is, this isn’t a bad thing at all!

“Loki” feels lighter with several funny moments and banter between the leads.  It also feels incredibly ambitious since it tackles time travel and the multiverse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Here’s my advice, try not to get too caught up in the multiverse time travel situation.  Enjoy the fun visuals and the interactions between the cast (except Mobius flirting with Judge Renslayer – that’s just creepy) and the intricate 1970s set.

Tom Hiddleston is a very charismatic actor and he’s surrounded by equally strong actors like Wunmi Mosaku (her side eye is epic!) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.  Owen Wilson is a bit harder to like as Mobius M. Mobius because it feels like every single other character Wilson has ever played- just with a silly mustache on his face.

Surprisingly there is a ton of physical humor like when Loki attempts to get his collar off but is zapped repeatedly or when Loki puts the collar on B-15 and she glitches while Loki uses the collar controls.

Do I Need to Watch the MCU Movies Before Watching LOKI?

YES, I would encourage you to do so! It’s necessary to get the full picture of Loki’s personality and what drives him to be a villain. Start with the Thor movies!
