Exciting Disney Announcements at the CinemaCon!

CinemaCon, the annual trade show held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, is a critical event for the film industry, bringing together movie theater owners, studio executives, filmmakers, and media to showcase the latest in cinema technology, innovations, and upcoming film slates from major studios. This event is hosted by the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), and it serves as a platform for studios to generate excitement about their new releases.

At this year’s CinemaCon, a Disney presentation underscored their commitment to the theatrical film experience. Alan Bergman, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, emphasized the unique magic of watching a film in theaters before handing it over to Tony Chambers, Disney’s executive vice president and head of theatrical distribution, who introduced a series of previews and announcements that promised an exciting year ahead for Disney fans and moviegoers.

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”

The presentation began with a bang as Disney unveiled 13 minutes of footage from 20th Century Studios’ “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.” This new chapter in the popular franchise is set to hit theaters on May 10 and promises an exciting plot set generations after Caesar’s reign, focusing on a new ape leader and the evolving dynamics between apes and humans.

“Young Woman and the Sea”

Disney is also diving into historical drama with “Young Woman and the Sea,” starring Daisy Ridley as Trudy Ederle, the first woman to swim the English Channel. Slated for a special engagement release on May 31, the film highlights Ederle’s remarkable journey.

“Inside Out 2”

Amy Poehler took the stage to discuss “Inside Out 2,” where she returns as the voice of Joy. Attendees got a first look at 35 minutes of the film, which introduces new Emotions and explores the challenges faced by the mind of teenager Riley. This sequel from Pixar is set to open in theaters on June 14.

Marvel Studios Highlights

Kevin Feige introduced exciting developments from Marvel Studios, including “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.” These films, set for release in February 2025 and July 2024 respectively, continue to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe with new adventures and beloved characters.

“Alien: Romulus”

The “Alien” franchise is returning to its horror roots with “Alien: Romulus,” directed by Fede Alvarez. Opening on August 16, the film promises to deliver a terrifying experience as new characters confront the iconic extraterrestrial threat.

Additional Announcements

Disney showcased a variety of other projects, including Searchlight Pictures’ “Kinds of Kindness,” the espionage thriller “The Amateur,” and “Mufasa: The Lion King,” a prequel exploring the backstory of one of Disney’s most iconic characters.

The presentation concluded with a fun display featuring Dwayne Johnson, who discussed “Moana 2,” set for release on November 27. Johnson’s appearance, alongside Polynesian performers, highlighted the cultural richness and continued innovation in Disney’s animated offerings.
