Overall, Brave New World feels like a filler movie. It mostly exists to connect earlier Marvel stories—Eternals, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Secret Invasion—to keep the main story moving forward. It’s not bad, but it’s missing the emotional punch of movies like Wakanda Forever or Avengers: Endgame.

Anthony Mackie has always been a great MCU character as Sam Wilson. He does a solid job, and his chemistry with Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres aka the new Falcon) is one of the movie’s stronger points. The action is consistent, and it’s pretty refreshing to see Marvel getting back to their espionage and political thriller roots. You can definitely feel some Winter Soldier-style influence, which is a nice throwback.

Isaiah Bradley’s return brings some needed emotional depth and historical drama, but he’s sadly underused and absent for big chunks of the film. The introduction of Celestial Island which was formed from Tiamut’s remains, is a cool expansion of the MCU’s lore and a neat tie-in to Eternals, but like a lot of things here, it’s barely explored.

The movie has some fun moments, a few good performances, and some interesting ideas. But overall, it plays things very safe. Some of the dialogue is rough to sit through, and the CGI is hit-or-miss—sometimes looking great, other times laughably bad.

At the end of the day, Captain America: Brave New World is a decent 3/5. It’s a fine watch if you’re keeping up with the MCU, but it doesn’t leave a huge impact.
