In Rebel Ridge, Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre) arrives in the small town of Shelby Springs on a mission to bail out his cousin and save him from danger. But after local police unjustly seize his life savings, Terry doesn’t charge in guns blazing. Instead, he’s methodical, carefully unraveling a deep-rooted conspiracy with precision and patience.
While there’s violence, Terry avoids lethal force, relying on his skills in jiujitsu, wrestling, and non-lethal weapons like bean bag rounds to defend himself. Alongside him is Summer McBride (AnnaSophia Robb), a recovering addict and court clerk who gets caught up in the dangerous power struggle. Robb delivers a solid performance, bringing depth to her small-town character.
Don Johnson shines as the ruthless Police Chief Sandy Burnne, playing the perfect villain, while Emory Cohen stands out as a corrupt cop slowly realizing that he, too, is expendable in the larger scheme. Best of all is Aaron Pierre who brings quiet focus to this part. Physically, he embodies the role well and is believable as a Veteran with special training in martial arts. His eyes are piercing and I really enjoyed his performance and chemistry with Robb
Directed by the mind behind Green Room and Blue Ruin, Rebel Ridge on Netflix is a slow burn that explores corruption, justice, and morality with tightly wound suspense.
