Millie Fleur Saves the Night is the charming sequel to the New York Times bestseller Millie Fleur’s Poison Garden, and this picture book is every bit as quirky and enchanting as the first. The main character is reminscent of Wednesday Addams! She is a little odd, a little magical, and full of heart.

In the town of Garden Glen, everyone fears the dark. As soon as the sun sets, every house shines as brightly as midday, except for Millie Fleur’s. She knows the night holds its own kind of beauty and wants to show her neighborhood the magic of night. That particular brand of magic includes glowing gardens, mysterious friends, and a darkness that is safe not scary. Determined to bring that wonder back, Millie bakes moon pies, plants a fragrant moon garden, and gently nudges her neighbors to be brave enough to turn out the lights.

Millie Fleur Saves the Night is more than just a story about darkness or being nervous about the dark. It’s about finding beauty where others see fear, and about one quirky girl who changes her whole town’s way of seeing the world. The illustrations in this picture book are gorgeous, full of dreamy nighttime scenes, making it a great option to read-aloud.

What I especially loved is how this book works beautifully as a bedtime story, especially for kids who might be afraid of the dark. It turns nighttime into something magical instead of scary, which makes it a great comfort read for families.

Delightfully peculiar and quietly powerful, Millie Fleur Saves the Night is one of those rare children’s books that entertains while also encouraging young readers to discover of wonder of night.
