Zootopia 2 Full Movie Review!
Walt Disney Animation Studios brings Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde back for another case in Zootopia 2, and the sequel delivers both the silliness and heart that made the original a surprise hit. Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman return to voice the unlikely cop duo, now navigating the complications of an actual working partnership rather than the tentative alliance we saw in the first film. Read on for a full movie review of Zootopia 2.

Zootopia 2 kicks off when Gary De’Snake, voiced by Ke Huy Quan in a delightful casting choice, arrives in Zootopia and throws the animal metropolis into chaos. What starts as a straightforward case quickly spirals into a huge mess when Judy and Nick discover secrets about Zootopia’s founding that certain parties want buried. The lynxes are lying about their role as the city’s designers and are desperate to destroy the book that reveals the truth about who actually built Zootopia. This creates genuine stakes as Jusy and Nick race to uncover what really happened before the evidence disappears forever.
To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover in unexpected parts of town we didn’t see in the first film. These new locations expand the world beautifully while maintaining the clever animal-based worldbuilding that made Zootopia so inventive.

The core of Zootopia 2 examines Judy and Nick’s evolving partnership. The first film was about two opposites learning to work together. This sequel digs deeper into what happens after that initial trust is established—how do you maintain it when the stakes get higher and the cases get more complicated? The film explores this working relationship as our two heroes work on their communication, trust and vulnerability.
Judy and Nick are tested in ways that feel organic to their characters. Their different approaches to policing create real friction, and the movie doesn’t shy away from showing them genuinely frustrated with each other. But it also shows them choosing to push through those frustrations because they’re better together than apart.

The sequel brings back beloved characters without feeling like it’s just checking boxes. Flash the sloth returns with his signature slow-talking bit that still lands perfectly. Idris Elba reprises his role as Chief Bogo, the no-nonsense buffalo police chief who’s warming to Judy and Nick’s unconventional methods. Even the mice Judy helped in the original film make an appearance, providing a sweet callback that feels fun as a new character is introduced to their little mouse family.
Ke Huy Quan’s Gary De’Snake is a welcome addition to the cast. Without spoiling anything, his character brings complexity to the story and gives Quan room to show range beyond the action hero persona we saw in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Zootopia 2 includes jokes that land differently depending on your age, and one of the best examples is a hilarious Burning Man parody that adults will immediately recognize while kids will just think it’s a silly festival scene. This layered humor is what the best animated films do—entertaining kids with the surface-level gags while giving adults something extra to laugh at.
The humor comes from character rather than just sight gags, though there are plenty of those, too. The jokes land because we care about these characters and understand their dynamics. The DMV scene from the first film became iconic for good reason, and while Zootopia 2 doesn’t try to recreate that exact magic, it finds its own comedic moments.
Zootopia 2 maintains the classic Disney-quality animation style that made the first film so stunning. Several shots are genuinely breathtaking, the way light filters through different districts of the city, the attention to detail in how various animals move and interact with their environment, and the creative ways the animators show scale differences between species. The new areas of Zootopia we visit are rendered with the same meticulous care as the districts from the first film, making you want to pause and explore every corner of the frame.
The thoughtful elements work because they’re woven into the story naturally rather than feeling like messages tacked on. The film has things to say about trust, partnership, and the stories we tell about our history, particularly who gets to write that history and what happens when the official narrative doesn’t match reality. The lynxes’ desperate attempt to destroy the book speaks to how power structures protect themselves by controlling information. But the movie never stops being an entertaining mystery-adventure that delivers those themes.
Zootopia 2 is a worthy sequel that deepens what we loved about the first film without just repeating it. Judy and Nick’s partnership feels genuinely evolved, the mystery involving Zootopia’s true origins is engaging, the new characters add rather than distract, and the animation remains top-tier. It’s funny on multiple levels, thoughtful about its themes, and visually gorgeous and it’s everything you want from a return to this world.
