Picture Book Review: Love, Panda
Lots of books focus on the reaction of the siblings when a new baby comes into the home. In Love, Panda, the focus is on a sweet pittle stuffed panda who has to adjust to a new baby in the midst. Read on for a review of the picture book Love, Panda by Elaine Su.

Panda is not happy about being stuck in the baby’s room. She misses Benny, her owner, and would much rather be back with him than dealing with all the drool, squeezing, and baby chaos. In Love, Panda, Panda writes letters to Benny asking him to come to the rescue, but she slowly begins to warm up to her new little companion.
The illustrations by Charlene Chua are wonderful, especially Panda’s facial expressions. From being squeezed by the baby to being read to, Panda’s reactions add so much personality and humor to the story. The background details are fun to look for, too, making this a picture book kids may enjoy revisiting.
I loved how Panda tries to be patient with the baby, even when she’d clearly rather be somewhere else. Her letters to Benny are funny and full of personality, but the story also gently explores how relationships between siblings can change when a new baby arrives.
Love, Panda is a sweet, funny read for families with little ones, especially children adjusting to life as a big sibling. Panda’s grumpy attitude and gradual change of heart make this a charming story about patience, growing affection, and finding your place in a changing family.
