Mole has always felt overlooked by the other animals in his community, so when he finds the tiny dandelion seed, he brings it home, dresses it up, and begins sharing his everyday life with his new friend. Their little adventures help Mole feel braver, and soon he is ready to venture outside and connect with others.

I found The Tiny Thing to be such a sweet story about loneliness, imagination, and building self-confidence. Mole is an adorable character, and I loved watching him go from spending time alone in his burrow to making new friends. One detail worth pointing out to little readers is that the dandelion seed begins to grow once Mole takes it outside and it lands in the dirt. Mole is so caught up in his new friendships that he doesn’t even notice, leading to a fun suprise at the end.

Lauren Stringer’s illustrations in this picture book are cute and full of charm, bringing Mole and his tiny companion to life. With its simple story and low word count, The Tiny Thing is a lovely choice for toddlers and a calming bedtime read.

This is a gentle reminder that sometimes a little encouragement is all we need to feel brave enough to reach out and make new friends.
